Our two days of workshops feature Picture Book, Novel and Illustrator Intensives Day and a five track Mid-Year Workshop.  A boxed lunch is included in each day’s registration fee.


NOTE:  Each Intensive is limited to a max of 25 particpants. 
You must be an SCBWI member and registered to a Saturday Workshop to participate in the INTENSIVES. 

 

INTENSIVES

Friday, June 24 
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Open only to Mid-Year Workshop registrants and carry an additional
 fee of $160

 Picture Book Intensive

 Join Alexandra Penfold, editor with Paula Wiseman Books at Simon & Schuster BFYR, and children's author, Lisa Wheeler for a one-day picture book writing extravaganza.
Participants must register/pay for the Sat. Mid-Year Workshops as well as the separate fee (see Registration Form) in order to attend.
Attendance limited to 25 people. 

 Novel Intensive

Join Michele Burke, editor at Knopf BFYR, authors: Kathleen Duey and Marjetta Geerling for an intense novel writing experience.
Participants must register/pay for the Saturday Mid-Year Workshops as well as the separate fee (see Registration From) in order to attend.
  Attendance limited to 25 people.

 Illustrator's Intensive

Join Lucy Cummins, associate art director with Simon & Schuster BFYR, Priscilla Burris, SCBWI National Illustrator Coordinator,  and author/illustrator, Linda Shute for a one-day event for committed illustrators who wish to hone their craft through hands-on activities and discussion.
Participants must register/pay for the Saturday Mid-Year Workshops as well as the separate fee (see Registration Form) in order to attend.

MID-YEAR WORKSHOP

This year's Orlando workshop features five tracks: Picture Book, Middle Grade, Young Adult, Poetry, and Digital Media. Participants will stay in their chosen track for the entire day for writing exercises, first page critiques, and market information regarding their genre. The tracks ensure small group interactions and a more focused learning environment.

FIRST PAGE CRITIQUES Track leaders will select a few submissions to read aloud and critique. Bring to your workshop track the first page of your novel or picture book, double spaced, 12 point type, 250 words or fewer, one page only. You may include the title and genre but do not include your name or other personal information.

PAID CRITIQUES are available to writers and illustrators who are registered participants for an additional fee and are limited to four per person. Sorry, we can NOT honor requests for specific critiquers. See critique registration form for additional details.
