Our two days of workshops feature Picture Book, Novel and Illustrator Intensives Day and a five track Mid-Year Workshop.  A boxed lunch is included in each day’s registration fee.

NOTE:  Each Intensive is limited to a max of 25 particpants. 
You must be an SCBWI member and registered to a Saturday Workshop to participate in the INTENSIVES.

 Picture Book Intensive

 Join author Lisa McCourt and Francis Gilbert of Sterling Publishing for this workshop designed to help writers think in pictures.  You must also register for the Mid-Year Workshop to attend the Intensive.  Attendance limited
to 25 people. 

 Novel Intensive

Join author Kathleen Duey, Stephanie Owens Lurie of Disney-Hyperion and Alvina Ling of Little Brown, for this workshop focusing on the  craft of writing.  You must also register for the Mid-Year Workshop to attend the Intensive.  Attendance limited to 25 people.

 Illustrator’s Intensive

Join illustrator/author Linda Shute and illustrator/author Pat Cummings for a one-day event intended for committed illustrators who wish to hone their craft through hands-on activities and discussion. You must also register for the Mid-Year Workshop to attend the Intensive.  Attendance limited to 25 people.

MID-YEAR WORKSHOP

Saturday, June 5,

The workshop features five tracks: Picture Book, Middle Grade, Young Adult, Series, and Marketing. Participants stay in one track all day for first page critiques, writing exercises, and market information in that genre. The five tracks ensure small groups and a more focused learning environment.

 Picture Book Track
with author Tammi Sauer, illustrator Dan Santat and Frances Gilbert, Vice President and Editorial Director of children’s publishing at Sterling Publishing.

 Middle Grade Track
with author Kathleen Duey and Alvina Ling, Senior Editor, Little Brown.

FIRST PAGE CRITIQUES Track leaders will select a few submissions to read aloud and critique. Bring to your workshop track the first page of your novel or picture book, double spaced, 12 point type, 250 words or fewer, one page only. You may include the title and genre but do not include your name or other personal information.

PAID CRITIQUES are available to registered participants for an additional fee and are limited to four per person. Sorry, we can NOT honor requests for specific critiquers. See critique registration form for additional details. 

BOOK SALES Workshop Leaders, Critiquers, and SCBWI members registered for the conference may sell their books through our on-site bookseller, Contact Susan Safra at ssafra22@comcast.net by May 3, 2010 with the name of your book and the ISBN number to be added to the list. According to SCBWI rules, no self-published books may be sold.

DATES

May 3, 2010:  Author and illustrator critique registration, manuscripts, and fees must be received by May 3. Also the deadline for Book Sales.

May 15, 2010:  Last day for early registration.
